I've seen Y Tu Mama Tambien, and I still find Harold and Kumar problematic, not subversive. The problem with Harold and Kumar isn't that they enjoy sex. Everyone should enjoy sex. The problem with the movie is that there are NO developed female characters. This is problematic because all the women in the film are just objectified. At least Y Tu Mama Tambien gives the woman in the film a voice and a sexuality. The audience gets to know her as a person. She has a story and is an integral part of the film. I don't understand why people would be disturbed by Y Tu Mama Tambien and not Harold and Kumar. I see problems with both. This doesn't mean that we can't watch and even enjoy both, but let's be critical and demand better representation for the sisters.
